Can any door hardware be used on any door?

Not every type of door hardware fits every door. Whether hardware is suitable depends, among other things, on the type of door, the existing lock, and the dimensions.

When replacing door hardware, it is important to first check what type of door you have. For example, different types of hardware and hinges can be used on a flush or rebated door.

Also, check the dimensions of the existing lock. For door hardware with a key or cylinder opening, the PZ measurement (pitch centre) is important, for example. This must match the distance between the spindle hole and the cylinder opening of the lock.

The thickness of the door can also be important. The hardware must be suitable for the thickness of the door and be able to be properly secured.

Do you want to replace existing door hardware without altering the lock? Then check the following beforehand:

• the type of door;
• the PZ measurement;
• the door thickness;
• the mounting points of the current hardware.

This way, you prevent ordering hardware that does not fit well or cannot be properly installed.
