What do you need?

Before we start, it's helpful to have the following items ready:

  • Your new Lavuzo door handle set (always supplied with mounting materials).

  • A drill with a 5mm wood drill bit.

  • A Phillips screwdriver.

  • A pencil or an awl.

  • Optional: wire cutters or a hacksaw for cutting the patent bolts to size.

How to install a door handle? The Lavuzo step-by-step guide

In this step-by-step plan, we show you, with text and accompanying images, how to install your new door handle on a rosette .

Step 1: Place the pin and crank

Take the included square handle pin and insert it into one of the door handles. Then insert the pin through the appropriate hole in the door. Make sure the handle fits snugly against the door.

Step 2: Mark the drill holes accurately

For a secure mounting, we use the included patent bolts. These require 38mm center-to-center holes. To determine where to drill, mark the holes for these bolts on the door with a pencil or awl. Once you've done this, temporarily remove the door handle from the door.

Tip: For perfect alignment, use the included drill template on the back of the manual. This way, you'll always drill in the right place!

Step 3: Drilling the holes for the rosette

Now it's time to drill the holes for the door. Use a 5mm wood drill bit. Avoid damaging the internal lock. It's safest to remove the mortise lock from the door before drilling. This way, you'll be sure you don't accidentally drill through the mechanism.

Step 4: Positioning the door handles and bolts

Now replace both door handles with the handle pins in the door. Insert the bolts through the holes you just drilled. A bolt consists of two parts: a sleeve and a bolt that are screwed together. This pulls the door handles firmly towards each other from both sides. This creates a "sandwich effect" that is much more secure than mounting with loose screws.

Tip: Cut the bolts to size. Because doors vary in thickness, patent bolts are often universally long. Are they too long for your door? You can easily cut the bolts to size with wire cutters or a hacksaw. Cut them along the designated ribs (the notches on the bolt). Cutting along these ribs ensures optimal thread integrity and a perfect fit for your door thickness.

Step 5: Tighten the patent bolts firmly

Now tighten the bolts. These secure the door handles to the door. Hand-tighten them to ensure the rosettes stay straight and the handles move smoothly. Overtightening the bolts will affect the spring system in the door. Use the Phillips screwdriver for this.

Step 6: Fix with the invisible door handle screw

Now, firmly tighten the door handle screw (the small Allen screw) on the bottom onto the spindle. Use the included Allen key.

At Lavuzo, we've deliberately placed this screw at the bottom of the door handle. This keeps it completely out of sight, preserving a sleek, luxurious design without any unsightly screws. By properly tightening this screw, you prevent the handle from wobbling over time and ensure an indestructible finish.

Step 7: The finishing touch

Finally, place the cover rosette over the mounting plate to neatly conceal the screws and bolts. Make sure the small recess in the rosette is on the underside . This keeps the design clean and the opening completely hidden.
Press the cover rosette firmly until you hear a slight 'click'; then it is perfectly in place.
