Does every type of door hardware fit an overlap door?
You want to upgrade your interior with new door hardware, but you have overlap doors. Then you immediately encounter a frequently asked question: does every type of door hardware fit an overlap door? The short answer is no. Unlike flush doors, overlap doors have a specific shape where the door partly overlaps the frame. This means the technical requirements for the hardware are different from a standard interior door.
In this blog, we explain what to look out for and why Lavuzo's collection offers the ideal solution for every overlap door.

Choosing and measuring door hardware for overlap doors
Many people wonder: does every type of door hardware fit an overlap door? No, not all door hardware fits an overlap door. The main reasons are the center-to-center distances (PC 55, SL56, and WC 63 for the Dutch market) and the width of the escutcheon plate. Because an overlap door has an overlapping edge that covers the frame, the flat mounting space is limited. If you choose door hardware that is too wide, it simply won't fit. However, Lavuzo has fully aligned its assortment with these standards, so you'll never face any surprises.
The problem often lies in details you don't see at first glance. For an overlap door, the distance between the center of the door handle and the center of the cylinder lock (the PC dimension) is 55 mm in 99% of cases. Many door fittings on the market are designed for 72 mm or even 92 mm, which is often used for exterior doors or heavier flush doors. If you accidentally buy those, the holes in your beautiful new door hardware won't match the lock already in your door.
Tip: Avoid hassle and measure this carefully before ordering using our handy free measuring guide.

Avoid the most common mistakes with overlap doors
Although we at Lavuzo take most technical concerns off your hands, it remains important to check what you currently have on your door. Do you currently have an elongated escutcheon plate and want to replace it? Then pay attention not only to the PC dimension but also to the total length of the escutcheon plate. At Lavuzo, we typically have a slightly longer escutcheon plate than standard door hardware, which usually seamlessly hides old screw holes!
Extra tip: When replacing your hinges, pay attention to the swing direction of your door. For an overlap door, this is essential for the type of hinges (paumelles) used. For the door hardware itself, the swing direction usually doesn't matter with Lavuzo, because our door handles always come in a set of 2, complete for 1 door!
