Does every type of door fitting fit on a rebated door?

You want to upgrade your interior with new door hardware, but you have rebated doors. This immediately raises a common question: does every type of door hardware fit a rebated door? The short answer is no. Unlike flush doors, rebated doors have a specific shape where the door partially rests on the frame. This means the technical requirements for the hardware are different than for a standard door.

In this blog, we explain what you should pay attention to and why the Lavuzo collection offers the ideal solution for every rebated door.

Selecting and measuring door fittings for a rebated door

Many people wonder: will every type of door hardware fit on a rebated door? No, not every type of door hardware fits on a rebated door. The main reasons are the bolt spacing (PC 55, SL56, and WC 63 for the Dutch market) and the width of the door backplate. Because a rebated door has a flange that extends over the frame, the available mounting space is limited. If you choose hardware that is too wide, it simply won't fit. However, Lavuzo has fully aligned its product range with these standards, so you'll never encounter any surprises.

The problem often lies in the details you don't see at first glance. With a rebated door, the distance between the center of the door handle and the center of the cylinder lock (the PC dimension) is 55 mm in 99% of cases. Many universal door fittings on the market are designed for 72 mm or even 92 mm, which is often used for exterior doors or heavier rebated doors. If you accidentally buy these, the holes in your beautiful new door fitting won't match the lock already in your door.

Tip: Avoid hassle and measure this carefully before ordering using our handy free measuring aid .

Why Lavuzo door hardware is the best match

At Lavuzo, we understand you don't want to struggle with sliding calipers and technical drawings. Our products are designed with the 2026 Dutch building standard in mind. Whether you have a modern new-build home or are giving your current doors a facelift, our hardware will fit seamlessly.

This is why customers choose Lavuzo en masse for rebated doors:

  • Slim Door Escutcheons: The door escutcheons of our door hardware are designed to stay within the flat part of the door, so they never touch the overlay.

  • Perfect PC55 sizing: The vast majority of our range is available in the standard 55 mm pitch, exactly what your rebated door needs.

  • Universal rosettes: Prefer a more understated look with door handles mounted on a rosette? Our door rosettes fit any overlay door, regardless of the distance between the handle and the lock. Extremely convenient!

  • Easy installation: Thanks to the included mounting kits and clear manuals, you can install the door fitting in no time, without having to adjust the door.

  • Create cohesion: From matte black and modern anthracite to classic stainless steel, you'll always find a style that complements the rest of your interior. With our matching accessories, you'll always have a cohesive look!

Avoid the most common mistakes with overlay doors

While we at Lavuzo take care of most of the technical details for you, it's still important to check what you currently have on your door. Do you currently have a long backplate and want to replace it? Then pay attention not only to the PC size, but also to the total length of the backplate. At Lavuzo, we always have a slightly longer backplate than standard door hardware, which usually conceals old screw holes seamlessly!

Extra tip: When replacing your hinges, pay attention to the door's swing direction. For rebated doors, this is essential for the type of hinges used. For the door hardware itself, the swing direction usually doesn't matter at Lavuzo, as our door handles always come in a set of two, complete for one door!
