For bathroom locks, the spindle size is crucial. We always use 8 mm, which fits standard residential locks. The mechanism works with a turning knob on the inside and an indicator on the outside. When installing, ensure the spindle fits perfectly squarely into the lock; this prevents play and ensures smooth locking. Always match with door handles of the same style, and don't forget your hinges!

Frequently asked questions about Bathroom and toilet door fittings

What's the difference between toilet door hardware and a standard door handle?
A toilet door handle set with a shield has a rotary knob (available/occupied set) that allows you to lock the door from the inside. A standard door handle lacks this mechanism, and the door cannot be locked.
What does the 8 mm pin size mean for toilet fittings?
The pin is the metal pin that connects the knob to the lock. At Lavuzo, 8 mm is the standard size. In older homes or with specific foreign locks, 5 mm or 7 mm is sometimes used; so check this before ordering.
How do I properly install the free/busy indicator?
Insert the pin through the lock and slide the knobs on. Tighten the Allen screws firmly on the flat side of the pin; this prevents the knobs from rattling or loosening over time.
How do I determine if my lock is suitable for a toilet lock?
Check if your mortise lock has an additional square hole below the door handle hole. The center-to-center distance between these two holes determines which door hardware you need. In the Netherlands, 63 mm (WC63) is the standard.
What if my center-to-center distance is longer than 63 mm?
No worries! In that case, choose door handles on a rosette combined with a separate toilet lock on a rosette. Because you install these components independently, this system fits almost any lock.

Toilet door hardware: vacant/occupied locks and perfect finish

Toilet door hardware and toilet door fittings are essential components for privacy in your home. At Lavuzo, you will find not only the right functionality but also a style that seamlessly matches the rest of your door hardware. We make it easy to equip your toilet or bathroom with a secure and attractive vacant/occupied lock.

Focus on functionality: door hardware on a backplate (WC63)

The most traditional and complete solution for the bathroom or toilet is a door handle on a backplate that is already equipped with a turn knob for the lock. The crucial measurement for this type of toilet door hardware is the center-to-center distance, WC63.

  • What does WC63 mean? This means that the distance between the center of the handle hole (where the spindle goes through) and the center of the lock's turning point (the toilet turn knob) is exactly 63 millimeters. This is the standard size for Dutch interior doors with a toilet lock.
  • Your benefit: When you choose toilet door hardware on a backplate with a WC63 center-to-center distance, you are assured of a perfect fit on most standard toilet and bathroom doors.

Tip: By choosing black toilet door hardware on a backplate or stainless steel on a backplate, you can easily combine it with other door handles on backplates in your home for a uniform look. Always choose and combine with other door hardware on backplates from the same series.

Different colors of toilet door hardware on backplates

Our door hardware on a backplate for the toilet is available in the most popular colors:

  • Black: For a black toilet door hardware or black toilet door hardware look that fits perfectly in a modern or industrial style.
  • Stainless Steel (RVS): For a timeless, modern look. Very easy to maintain.

Flexible choice: toilet roses and door hardware on roses

Do you want more design freedom, or do you have a door where the center-to-center distance is unknown or non-standard? Then individual toilet roses are the ideal solution. The big advantage of an individual toilet rose is that you are not tied to the fixed center-to-center distance of a backplate. The rose with the vacant/occupied lock is mounted independently of the handle. This makes it compatible with any type of toilet lock.

You can combine these individual toilet roses with your favorite door handles on roses. This way, you can choose the handle you like best and then place the correct lock rose with it.

Wider choice of finishes on roses

With our bathroom door hardware on roses, you have a wider choice of colors to vary with:

  • Black and Stainless Steel: Just like with backplates, these are the basic colors.
  • Matte gold with PVD coating: A durable finish that provides a luxurious, rich tone without discoloration.
  • Incredibly popular bronze: For a warm, classic, or retro toilet door hardware look.
